LG Group is accelerating its efforts to build a partnership with Honda Motor Co. as South Korea's fourth-largest conglomerate beefs up its automotive electronics portfolio in line with the automobile industry’s shift toward software-defined vehicles.
On Sunday, chief executives of LG Group’s key units, including LG Electronics Inc., LG Energy Solution Ltd. and LG Display Co., LG Innotek Co., flew to Tokyo to meet with Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Honda and other executives of the Japanese automaker on Monday.
Kwon Bong-seok, vice chairman of LG Corp., the group’s holding company, led the delegation to host its Tech Day event for Honda on July 7-8, according to industry sources.
During the closed-door event, LG will unveil its latest offerings of automotive electronic products.
Those products include infotainment systems, displays, camera and communication modules,
vehicle headlamps and sensors such as radar and LiDAR (light detection and ranging), as well as electric vehicle batteries.
LG Group encmpasses LG Energy Solution, one of the world's top three EV battery makers.
LG Group’s Tech Day event is the latest in a series held for global carmakers since 2024 as LG Group has
joined forces to promote their in-vehicle systems, a key growth driver for the electronics-to-chemical group.
In 2024, it hosted the event at Mercedes-Benz's headquarters in Germany, followed by meetings with Hyundai Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp.
LG Group is said to have been requested to hold similar Tech Day events for German carmaker BMW and Sweden-based Volkswagen.
