The music video for singer Psy's global hit "Gangnam Style" has surpassed 5 billion views on YouTube.

According to YouTube on Saturday, the music video for "Gangnam Style," which was released in 2012, has 5.02 billion views as of this afternoon.

It is the first K-pop music video to exceed 5 billion views on YouTube.

"The day we reached 10 million views, I dreamed of 50 million views with my colleagues. And I'm 100 times happier than I ever dreamed," Psy said through his agency.

Upon its release, "Gangnam Style" became a global hit, peaking at No. 2 on the U.S. Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks.

The music video garnered 1 billion YouTube views in 161 days, making it the first YouTube video to surpass 1 billion views in a single day.

In 2014, it surpassed 2 billion views, and in 2017 and 2021, it surpassed 3 billion and 4 billion views, respectively.
