US-based investment firm Cohen & Steers Inc. has appointed Andrew Shin, a 20-year veteran of the institutional investment market, as vice president to lead its institutional distribution business in South Korea and support broader institutional growth across Asia.

As head of South Korea, Shin, whose Korean name is Shin Yoon-hyun, will oversee institutional business development and client servicing in the country, Asia’s fourth-largest economy, the firm said in a statement Tuesday. He will also contribute to the firm’s wider institutional strategy in the region.

Based in Hong Kong, Shin will report to Abhi Shroff, head of APAC Institutional Distribution.

Before joining Cohen & Steers, Shin served as director and head of Investment Services, Korea, at Willis Towers Watson. In that role, he advised Korean institutional investors on asset allocation and investment strategies.

“Andrew brings significant knowledge of the Korean institutional business,” Shroff said in the statement. “His appointment demonstrates our continued commitment to clients in the region.”

The hire comes as institutional demand for real assets and income diversification grows across Asia. Cohen & Steers, which opened its Hong Kong office in 2006 and launched its Singapore presence in 2023, is seeking to deepen its reach in key regional markets.

Founded in 1986, New York-headquartered Cohen & Steers manages a range of real assets and alternative income strategies, including listed and private real estate, infrastructure and preferred securities.

The investment firm operates global offices in London, Dublin, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.
