Lotte Engineering & Construction has developed eco-friendly concrete that can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90%.

In collaboration with M-Tech Co., a developer of eco-friendly construction materials, Lotte created a technology to produce concrete with lower emissions, the company said on Sunday.

Cement, the primary ingredient in concrete, produces 0.9 tons of carbon dioxide for every ton produced. Lotte's eco-friendly concrete uses only 5% of cement and maintains the same strength as traditional concrete, while also resisting salt damage.

Lotte aims to reduce embodied carbon, the carbon dioxide emissions generated throughout the entire lifecycle of a building or infrastructure, by using eco-friendly concrete.

An official from the company stated that putting up apartments with eco-friendly concrete is equivalent to reducing 6,000 tons of carbon emissions and planting 42,000 trees in the case of 1,000-unit buildings.
