SM Bexel Co., the battery manufacturing affiliate of South Korea's SM Group, announced on Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with aerospace tech firm Soom-Vi Co. for joint development of military drone batteries.

Under the agreement, the two companies plan to localize the production of secondary battery packs for precision high-performance military drones.

SM Bexel will focus on research and development of lightweight, charging speed, and current efficiency batteries for drones.

The companies also anticipate that drones equipped with jointly developed batteries will achieve a high level of reliability, and they expect them to be utilized by military units, industrial sites, and national parks.
