LG Electronics Inc. said on Tuesday it launched a Global Heat Pump Consortium to strengthen cooperation on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technologies, a key infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI).

HVAC systems, which include heat pumps that transfer heat indoors and outdoors, are critical for cooling the heat generated by AI data centers.

It is the first time LG has held a global event focused on developing next-generation heat pump technologies.

The company established heat pump research consortiums in Alaska, the US, in November, Oslo, Norway, in June, and Harbin, China, in August.

The inaugural ceremony at LG Science Park in Seoul's Magok district lasts four days until September 26. Researchers from leading international universities are attending.

Participants discussed topics such as the monitoring of cold-climate air source heat pumps and field testing of cold-climate specialized heat pumps in Europe, sharing insights into the performance of heat pumps in extreme weather conditions.

Market research firm IBISWorld expects the global HVAC market to grow from $58.4 billion in 2022 to $61 billion by 2028.

LG Electronics aims to double its HVAC business revenue by 2030, expanding its business-to-business (B2B) segment.
