South Korea’s POSCO Group has been permanently inducted into the Hall of Fame by the World Steel Dynamics (WSD), a US steel industry research and consulting firm, after being ranked as the world’s most competitive steelmaker for 15 consecutive years since 2010.
The recognition is based on WSD’s annual assessment, which has evaluated 35 global steel producers across 23 categories, including technological innovation, since 2002, said POSCO Holdings Inc.
In a celebratory speech marking POSCO’s Hall of Fame induction at the Global Steel Dynamics Forum in New York on Wednesday, Chang In-hwa, chief executive of POSCO Group, introduced the group’s global leadership strategy before an audience of about 500 attendants.
"We will continue advancing hydrogen-based steelmaking technology and building intelligent factories powered by AI," said Chang. “We’ll become a growth-driven company through bold challenges and continuous innovation."
During his visit to New York this week, Chang also met with experts in artificial intelligence, geopolitical and energy in a roundtable hosted by the Korea Society, a US-Korean friendship organization.
POSCO said the discussion explored Korea-US collaboration opportunities in sectors such as steel, battery materials and energy, amid rising geopolitical uncertainty and global economic fragmentation.
They also discussed the use of a unified industrial large knowledge model designed to integrate expert knowledge and data into AI systems to enhance reliability, as well as the automation of high-risk, non-standard production sites through robotics.
Panelists at the roundtable include Kathleen Stephens, former US ambassador to South Korea and chair of the Korea Society, as well as Mark Menezes, president of the United States Energy Association.
