South Korea’s Suprema Inc., an artificial intelligence (AI)-based security company, said on Monday it won a contract to supply its fingerprint recognition access control system to the customer in Ethiopia.
The company said the solution will be integrated with the existing time and attendance management system, enabling faster and more accurate access authentication.
"Based on the success of this implementation, we are discussing plans to expand the project to other regions beyond Addis Ababa," a Suprema source said.
Earlier this year, Suprema also exported a biometric-based access control solution to the customer in Ghana.
The company provides access control solutions using various authentication methods, including fingerprint recognition, facial authentication and mobile cards.
Suprema has been expanding in Africa with clients and partners in 49 African countries.
"In many African regions, fingerprint recognition technology is still in the early stages of adoption for access control. However, it is widely used in public services like election management and ID issuance," a company representative said.
"As user experience broadens and digital infrastructure develops, we expect wider adoption of fingerprint recognition technology across industries, including finance, education, and healthcare."
