Samsung Electronics Co. said on Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NTT Docomo, Japan's largest mobile telecommunications provider, to jointly research artificial intelligence (AI) technology for next-generation communications.

The companies plan to leverage their technological expertise and business acumen to explore the integration of communication and AI, as AI technology adoption expands and the standardization of 6G communication advances.

They expect their collaborative research to enhance user experience in communication services and improve the operational efficiency of service providers' systems.

Currently, mobile communication optimizes quality at the cell level and is managed by individual base stations.

The goal is to apply AI to maximize communication quality more precisely at the user level.

By enhancing communication quality for users in boundary areas between cells or regions with weak signals, the collaboration aims to ensure more stable communication service operations.
